Lush Daddy-O Shampoo Review

I've experimented with my hair a lot over the past few years, including dip dying and DIY highlighting, which was my most recent hair experiment. Currently, my hair is dark brown with medium and light brown ends and light brown highlights all over and around my face. I used a Wella bleach and a hair brush to bleach my hair (which was a mistake because I should have used a blue or purple bleach) and it left my hair brassy. To counteract that, I toned with Wella's T18 toner and my hair became a neutral brown. I wanted to prevent my hair from becoming brassy again, so I bought the Clairol Shimmer Lights Shampoo (this one here) which worked really well. Unfortunately, I'm on the last drops of it, so I decided to try out Lush's Daddy-O shampoo.

The Daddy-O is a nice shampoo. It's natural, cruelty-free, and smells like a combination of candy and musky flowers (it's hard to pinpoint the exact scent). The consistency is thin and slightly runny which may be a downside for people who like thicker shampoos. For a natural shampoo, it lathers well, especially compared to some of the other natural shampoos I've tried. Also, it conditions nicely, and leaves my hair soft.

On the label, it states that it works for brunettes as well, which was not true. The shampoo wasn't as pigmented as I wanted, which made its toning power not as strong. After one use, my hair colour didn't change, which was disappointing because the Clairol Shimmer Lights always added an ashy tone. However, you do have to take into account that this shampoo is all natural. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this shampoo for toning brown hair.

RapidLash XL Review

In high school, I wasn't really concerned about make up, specifically eye make up, so I didn't care about the appearance of my eyelashes. It was only until I got to university that I started feeling envious of the curly, luscious eyelashes all of my girl friends (and boyfriend!) had. I tried to mimic their lashes by doing all sorts of things to mine, such as:

  • Heating up an eyelash curler and clamping them down on my poor babies
  • Using multiple layers of different types of disappointing mascara
  • Using a Korean eyelash perming kit I bought online from a Pinterest post (which only succeeded in giving my lashes a slight curl for an hour or two (yay?) but ended up giving me clumpy, gluey lashes that I had to cover with eye make up remover for 30 minutes)

My lashes just looked like fat, stumpy, and sad curls after being put through these somewhat torturous methods of curling, thickening, and lengthening. Then one day, in Shopper's Drug Mart, I came across an eyelash serum from Indeed Labs (this one here) and it made my lashes grow longer and new lashes actually grew in. It was good and did everything it promised. I still wanted my lashes to be longer, though, so I purchased a second tube after I finished the first to hold me until I found a new substitute. That's when I discovered RapidLash XL.

I came across a review on YouTube of a girl who said her friend's mother, who had lost her hair through chemo, used this and her eyelashes grew back. I've seen RapidLash at Costco and Shopper's before, but I was still skeptical. I needed more proof so I went to Google. Eventually, after reading tons of reviews and watching about 10 videos, I bought it and I've never been happier with my lashes (seriously).

My lashes started growing longer and thicker after about 3 or 4 weeks, and after about 2 months, new lashes started to grow in places that were bare before. I had new lashes growing slightly above my upper lash lines and slightly below my lower lash lines, as well as the innermost corners and outermost corners. I was really, really happy with the results so I bought a second tube after my first one finished. I'm still on my second tube because these tubes last forever and my lashes look long and wispy (for an Asian, anyway) and they look absolutely amazing when I apply Urban Decay Canonball mascara or use a combo of Shiseido Nourishing Mascara Base and Diorshow Iconic Overcurl mascara. My lashes are now long enough to touch my eyebrows when they're curled and have mascara on. They also poke at the lenses of my glasses which is slightly uncomfortable, but that's okay, because that means my lashes are LONG! If lashes had beauty competitions like dogs did (Corgis will always be first in my heart) mine would finally be able to compete with those of my friends and my boyfriend.

RapidLash is mostly a win, but one bad thing I've experienced is discolouration around my upper lash lines, as you can see in the picture above. They've been pink since I started using it and my skin isn't sensitive at all. I'm not sure what to make of it and this sometimes makes me want to switch to an all natural alternative, like coconut oil. The packaging isn't as nice as I'd like it to be either, for a $55 eyelash serum. I also find that the serum pools around the little opening at the top of the tube after you use it for a while. It would be nice if there was something inside to remove the excess serum on the brush.

As for application, I use RapidLash once a day before I go to bed and after I shower, and for me, this method yields great results.
